This circa 1940 shower had to be gutted because the pan leaked, a common problem for old showers. Water pooling under the pan can create a rather insanitary situation. The walls were built back with 3/4 plywood, 1/2 inch tilebacker, and then the tile. The new floor has 3/4 plywood, sloped foam board, a vinyl liner, floor mud, and finally tile.
